Valtellina Golf Club was designed in the mid -90s by Dr. Fulvio Bani , under the supervision of architect Fernando Grattirola and opened officially in May 1999.
Born thanks to the initiative of a group of golf loving sponsors in Valtellina, the club has contributed to spreading golf in the Sondrio province, attracting new players every year.
The “open door” philosophy of the circle was paramount to its success: no obligation to subscribe for equity or pay an initial entrance fee and a range of incentives for beginners to allow for a leisurely and gradual approach to golf.
The Golf Club, besides providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere to practice sports and enjoy the company of friends who share the same passion, has contributed from the very beginning to boosting the tourist offer of the Valley and emphasize the characteristics of a natural environment of rare beauty; just a few miles outside Sondrio, the course sits by the banks of the Adda river, surrounded by the vineyards of the Rhaetian Alps and the green forests of the Orobie, by the Adamello mountain massif and the granite peak of Mount Disgrazia.
In 2007, Valtellina Golf Club hosted the 3rd PGAI Lombardy Regional Championship and the praise and appreciation by players of national and international standing convinced the Club to embark in a project to expand the course from 9 to 18 holes in order to position it among the most important and charming courses of Lombardy. After a delicate and complex process of acquisition of the areas designed to accommodate the new holes, the first earthworks began in the fall of 2009, and on October 16, 2010, the 18-hole - PAR 71 course was inaugurated in record time.
Although being surrounded by the Alps, the golf course lays in a flat area enlivened by artificial lakes and canals that characterize the most difficult holes .
The course is very challenging and technical, alternating very long holes to others shorter and more delicate to play. Often, from late morning, the “Breva”, a strong breeze blowing from west to east increases the difficulties. Appreciated for its superb fairways, treated daily by green keeper Fulvio Polinelli, the course can boast an extraordinary compactness, greens always perfect and a rough deliberately kept high to increase the difficulty of the game
